Visit a Dentist in Raleigh, NC for a Smile-Changing Dental Treatment

By David Gover

It is not always popular to say it out loud, but the truth is that the way a person looks affects the way others think about them and the way others treat them. There is a lot of research to back this idea up. One feature that has a large impact on how attractive a person appears is their smile. If an individual is missing teeth, has teeth that are stained, or has a crooked smile, this can have a negative impact on their professional and personal life.

Evidence of this is seen in a study that was performed in 2007 by Kelton Research. In their study, they examined the way that tooth whitening affected the impression employers had of prospective employees during a job interview. Through the course of the study, eighty randomly selected people went on fake interviews with two different experienced human resource workers.

The first interview was before teeth whitening, and the second just after they got their teeth whitened. The research shows that the interviewees had a 58 percent higher chance of getting the job after they had their teeth touched up. So, for some individuals a simple visit to a Raleigh, NC dentist may make the difference between them getting the job they want and being looked over for someone else.

Another survey was done in 2012 where more than 1,000 individuals were asked to give their opinion of a group of people based on their photograph. The individuals who participated in the survey did not know what the purpose of it was. They were shown various photographs of individuals smiling. And they were asked to give their immediate impression of each person solely based on their appearance. The results were that people who had perfectly aligned teeth had a 21 percent higher chance of being perceived as happy. They had a 47 percent higher chance of being perceived as healthy. And they were 38 percent more likely to be seen as being intellectual.

These surveys back up something that dentists in Raleigh, NC have heard from their patients for many years. When a person uses cosmetic dentistry to improve their smile, it completely changes the way that the world reacts to them. This in turn can help a person increase their own self-esteem and give them the confidence they need to live the life they want.
